Biererie Shelton: Milkshake IPA Sure aux Abricots

Alright, this is it, our beer of the Summer! Everyone else can pack it up and go, nothing to see here! Go on, git! (kidding, kidding)

You’re looking at @biererieshelton‘s Sour Milkshake IPA with apricots, and this is our new MVP of the season. We picked one up on a whim a while back and realized we goofed by not getting multiples… yes, it’s that good. We did not make the same mistake twice!

The body is good for a milkshake beer, not too thick but definitely not watery. It capitalizes on the mouthfeel you get from adding milk sugar, yet manages to retain drinkability. The lactose quality and vanilla blend with the pronounced fruit backbone to give this an almost yogurt-like taste, but the hops keeps it in check and reminds you that yes, this is in fact a beer. Sweetness is on point here: it’s not dry as a bone (and I don’t think it should be), and the fruit presents as more than just something to drive up the level of tartness. It’s clearly a sour beer, but it doesn’t push the limits like some others in the sour style do. Shelton was definitely trying to push the envelope with this offering, and while it seems pretty “out there” at first glance, you’ll realize after a few sips that this makes perfect sense. All the elements play well together, and the taste doesn’t come off as some sort of Frankenstein’s monster.

Overall: great beer, and we look forward to seeing more stuff like this in the future.

Bonne degustation, and

Happy Canada Day!!!
