Microbrasserie Ruisseau Noir: Milkshake IPA (Ananas + Mangue)

Milkshake IPA from @micro.ruisseau.noir! It’s a beautiful day, so we took a trip to our favorite beer store, @boutiquehellvis, and stocked up on some delicious Summer beers.

I noticed I’ve been gravitating to the milkshake style IPAs lately, but we’ve been seeing a lot of great ones in Montreal! This one is flavored with pineapple and mango, but the first sip is dominated by hops. The flavor is juicy tropical fruit, followed by a lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue, definitely more resinous and piney than some of the others I have had in this style. The vanilla isn’t particularly noticeable to me on the palate, but it’s very present in the aroma. The lactose and vanilla come in a little bit more on the back end, and help round out the mouthfeel. It’s pretty balanced, and will appeal to those who are less interested in the sweeter examples of this style.

I had a tougher time distinguishing the individual fruits in this particular offering, and while it was very nice I feel it would have been less confusing to just have a single fruit addition (I barely notice the pineapple at all, and wouldn’t have known it was there if it weren’t on the can). The mango is fairly present though, and lingers a bit on the back end. I’d have liked to see a straight “pineapple” version of this one. Still… if you happen to find one, pick it up and give it some love.

Bonne degustation!
